You’ve reached “Read it and Weep” again! We’re the podcast where two college roommates talk about books they read in high school and beyond. In today’s episode, Carrie and Hanan discuss F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, perhaps the most read high school novel in America. The famous story follows Nick Carraway’s journey though rich culture in the 1920s and his interactions with Jay Gatsby, a wealthy bootlegger who’s enamored with his childhood love Daisy Buchanan and desperately wants her back despite her marriage to another man. This episode delves into Fitzgerald’s themes of the destruction of the American dream, materialism, and the danger of living in the past. As always, a few funny stories made their way in, including our experiences on the highs and lows of New York City.
